Description
Yellowback Anthias (Pseudanthias evansi / Yellowback Anthias)
A vibrant and active schooling marine fish, the Yellowback Anthias is known for its striking pink-red body with a bright yellow dorsal area. Constantly swimming in the water column, it adds movement, colour, and natural reef behaviour to larger marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other calm to moderately robust species such as tangs, wrasses, dwarf angelfish, and clownfish. Should be kept in groups (harem) where possible for natural behaviour. Avoid aggressive tankmates.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and invertebrates, making it ideal for reef systems.
Diet:
Planktivore – feeds on zooplankton in the wild. Requires frequent feeding of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood. High-quality marine pellets are also accepted. Feed 2–3+ times daily for best health.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 400L
Care Level:
Moderate to Advanced – requires a mature, stable aquarium with strong oxygenation, low aggression tankmates, and frequent feeding schedules.
Top Tip:
Keep in groups of one male with multiple females for best long-term success. Regular small feeds throughout the day are essential to maintain condition and colouration.
