Description
ellow Goatfish (Mulloidichthys martinicus / Yellow Goatfish)
The Yellow Goatfish is a vibrant and active marine species, instantly recognisable by its bright yellow body and characteristic sensory barbels used for foraging along sandy substrates. Its natural behaviour and striking appearance make it a fascinating addition to medium and large marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Best kept with other medium to large community fish such as wrasses, tangs, and gobies. May occasionally chase smaller fish while searching the substrate for food.
Reef Compatibility:
Mostly reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, though may disturb sand while foraging.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds primarily on small invertebrates and crustaceans. Supplement with finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, and marine pellets. Feed 2–3 times daily to maintain health and vibrant colour.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated. Requires stable water parameters and sufficient open swimming space for foraging behaviour.
Top Tip:
Provide a sandy substrate to allow natural foraging. Regular feeding of meaty foods enhances coloration and encourages natural behaviour.
