Description
Undulatus Triggerfish (Balistapus undulatus / Undulated Trigger)
A bold and highly striking marine species, the Undulatus Triggerfish is known for its vivid green and orange wavy patterning and powerful personality. While incredibly eye-catching, it is also one of the more aggressive triggerfish, best suited for experienced aquarists and species-specific or carefully planned tanks.
Compatibility:
Aggressive. Best kept alone or with very robust, similarly aggressive species. Not suitable for community aquariums with peaceful fish. Will often dominate or attack tankmates, especially in confined spaces.
Reef Compatibility:
Not reef-safe. Likely to nip at corals, invertebrates, and smaller fish. Best suited for fish-only systems.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on a varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, mussels, and other hard-shelled seafood. Hard foods help maintain healthy teeth. Feed 1–2 times daily in controlled portions.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 300L
Care Level:
Advanced – requires an experienced aquarist due to its aggressive nature and territorial behaviour. Needs a well-established aquarium with stable water conditions.
Top Tip:
Provide strong rockwork with caves for territory and security. Use caution during maintenance, as this species can be highly territorial—even toward the aquarist. Best introduced as the final fish in a tank setup.
