Description
Timor Wrasse (Halichoeres timorensis / Timor Wrasse)
A colourful and active marine species, the Timor Wrasse is admired for its vibrant green, blue, yellow, and orange markings that become increasingly striking with maturity. Constantly on the move, it is an excellent addition to larger reef and community marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Generally compatible with tangs, clownfish, gobies, angelfish, and other wrasses of a different species. May become territorial toward similar wrasses in smaller systems.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Safe with corals but may prey on small ornamental shrimp, feather dusters, flatworms, and other tiny invertebrates. Often valued for helping control unwanted pests.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small crustaceans, worms, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and quality marine pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily for optimal health and coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L
Care Level:
Easy to Moderate – hardy once established but requires a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and a sandy substrate for sleeping and security.
Top Tip:
Provide a fine sand bed at least a few centimetres deep, as Timor Wrasses bury themselves in the substrate at night and when startled. A secure lid is also recommended, as wrasses are excellent jumpers.
