Swissguard Basslet – Tangerine (Liopropoma rubre / Swissguard Basslet)
A rare and beautifully coloured marine species, the Tangerine Swissguard Basslet is admired for its vivid orange-red body accented with fine white striping and elegant finnage. Peaceful yet secretive, this premium basslet is a stunning addition to mature reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with calm community species such as gobies, blennies, wrasses, clownfish, and small tangs. Avoid aggressive or highly boisterous fish that may stress this shy species.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and most invertebrates, though very small ornamental shrimp may occasionally be at risk. Ideal for peaceful reef systems.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and quality marine pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily for best health and colouration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 100L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but benefits from a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and plenty of rock crevices for shelter.
Top Tip:
Provide deep rockwork with caves and shaded areas to help it feel secure. This species may remain hidden initially but becomes more confident over time in peaceful surroundings.
