Description
Super Hypo Carrot Tail Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius)
The Super Hypo Carrot Tail Leopard Gecko is a stunning selectively bred morph of the ever-popular Leopard Gecko, admired for its beautiful golden-yellow body, reduced spotting and vibrant orange tail colouration.
The term Super Hypo refers to the absence of dark spots across the body, while Carrot Tail describes the distinctive orange pigmentation extending along a portion of the tail. Together, these traits create a particularly attractive Leopard Gecko with a clean, bright appearance.
Known for their generally calm temperament, inquisitive personalities and manageable care requirements, Leopard Geckos make fantastic pets for both beginners and experienced reptile keepers.
Habitat
Leopard Geckos are primarily terrestrial reptiles that enjoy exploring, climbing over low structures and resting in secure hiding places.
-
Enclosure: A secure, well-ventilated terrestrial vivarium, with a minimum of approximately 90 x 45 x 45cm recommended for an adult
-
Warm Side: Approximately 30–32°C, with a suitable warm basking area
-
Cool Side: Approximately 24–26°C
-
Humidity: Generally around 30–40%, with a humid hide available to assist shedding
-
Lighting: A consistent day/night cycle should be provided, with suitable low-level UVB strongly recommended
-
Decor: Multiple hides, cork bark, rocks, sturdy branches and low climbing opportunities
-
Water: Fresh drinking water should always be available
Providing a suitable temperature gradient allows the gecko to regulate its body temperature naturally.
Feeding
Super Hypo Carrot Tail Leopard Geckos are insectivorous and require a varied diet of appropriately sized live insects.
-
Diet: Crickets, locusts, roaches, mealworms, calciworms and other suitable feeder insects
-
Juveniles: Generally fed daily or every other day, depending on age and body condition
-
Adults: Usually fed approximately 2–3 times per week
-
Supplementation: Feeder insects should be gut-loaded and appropriately dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements
-
Treats: Waxworms and other high-fat insects should only be offered occasionally
-
Water: Fresh drinking water should always be available
A balanced diet and appropriate supplementation are essential for healthy growth, strong bones and long-term wellbeing.
