Description
Silver Spot Tang (Ctenochaetus binotatus / Silverspot Bristletooth Tang)
A peaceful and visually striking marine species, the Silver Spot Tang is known for its subtle silver spotting along a greyish body and its efficient algae-grazing behaviour. Perfect for both reef and community aquariums, it combines beauty with functionality.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Mixes well with most community fish including clownfish, gobies, blennies, and angelfish. Can be territorial with other tangs in smaller tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it ideal for reef systems.
Diet:
Herbivore – primarily feeds on algae. Also scrapes detritus and microalgae from rocks and surfaces. Supplement with algae sheets, spirulina flakes, or pellets if natural algae is insufficient.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L
Care Level:
Easy to moderate – hardy once established, thrives in a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and ample grazing surfaces.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of live rock for natural grazing. Feed supplemental algae-based foods regularly to maintain colour and reduce aggression. Ideal for community tanks as a peaceful, natural algae controller.
