Description
Silver Belly Wrasse (Halichoeres scapularis / Halichoeres sp.)
A sleek and peaceful marine species, the Silver Belly Wrasse is recognised by its silvery body, subtle markings, and graceful swimming behaviour. Its calm temperament and active foraging make it an attractive addition to community and reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other non-aggressive species such as clownfish, gobies, blennies, and tangs. Avoid overly aggressive fish that may stress or bully it. Can be territorial with conspecifics in smaller tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Generally reef-safe. Does not harm corals or invertebrates, making it suitable for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Feed small amounts 1–2 times daily.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 200L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but benefits from a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and plenty of hiding spots.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock and sand substrate to encourage natural foraging and hiding behaviour. A well-established tank helps reduce stress and supports vibrant coloration.
