Description
Siamese Blenny (Plagiotremus rhinorhynchos / Bluestriped Fang Blenny)
A unique and intelligent marine species, the Siamese Blenny is recognised for its elongated body, striking blue stripe, and fascinating mimicry behaviour. Often resembling cleaner wrasse species, this active fish brings personality and movement to marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Can be kept with moderately robust species such as tangs, wrasses, clownfish, and gobies. May occasionally nip fins of slower-moving fish, especially in smaller tanks. Avoid housing with very timid species.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Harmless to corals and most invertebrates, though occasional fin-nipping behaviour toward fish tankmates should be monitored.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood. Will also accept high-quality marine pellets and flakes. Feed 1–2 times daily.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 100L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated but benefits from a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and plenty of rockwork for shelter and territory.
Top Tip:
Provide ample hiding places among live rock. Keeping it well-fed can help minimise fin-nipping behaviour toward other tankmates.
