Scribbled Anthias (Pseudanthias bimaculatus)
A beautifully coloured and active reef fish, the Scribbled Anthias is admired for its vibrant pink, orange, and yellow hues, often accented by delicate blue facial markings. Constantly swimming in the water column, this elegant species adds colour, movement, and natural shoaling behaviour to larger reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other peaceful to moderately active species such as clownfish, gobies, blennies, wrasses, dwarf angelfish, and tangs. Ideally maintained as a harem consisting of one male and several females in suitably sized aquariums. Avoid aggressive tankmates that may intimidate them.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and ornamental invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for mixed reef aquariums.
Diet:
Planktivore – requires a varied diet of small meaty foods including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, cyclops, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Feed 2–4 small meals daily to support its high metabolism and maintain vibrant colouration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 300L
Care Level:
Moderate – requires a mature aquarium with stable water quality, strong water movement, and frequent feeding. Best suited to established reef systems with plenty of open swimming space.
Top Tip:
Keep Scribbled Anthias in small groups whenever possible, with one dominant male and multiple females. Frequent, varied feedings and high water quality are the keys to maintaining their stunning colours and long-term health.
