Key Features & Care Guidelines:
-
Vivid Red Nose: The most notable feature of the Rummynose Tetra is its bright red nose, which contrasts beautifully with its silvery, almost translucent body. This gives the fish a dynamic and striking appearance.
-
Behavior: Peaceful and active schooling fish; best kept in groups of 6 or more to promote natural schooling behavior and reduce stress.
-
Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons recommended for a school, though larger tanks are ideal for better swimming space and a more vibrant display.
-
Water Parameters: Prefers slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH between 5.5 and 7.0, and temperatures ranging from 74°F to 82°F (23°C to 28°C).
-
Diet: Omnivorous; accepts a variety of foods, including flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia.
-
Tank Setup: Ideal for planted tanks with soft, dim lighting, gentle water flow, and plenty of swimming space. A well-planted setup with hiding spots will enhance the comfort of this species.
-
Experience Level: Hardy and easy to care for, making it a fantastic choice for both beginners and more experienced aquarists.
