Description
Royal Gramma (Gramma loreto)
A small, vibrant, and peaceful marine species, the Royal Gramma is instantly recognisable by its striking purple front half fading into a bright yellow tail. Known for its curious personality and relatively easy care, it is a favourite for reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other non-aggressive species such as gobies, blennies, clownfish, and small tangs. Avoid aggressive or very territorial tankmates that may stress it. Can be semi-territorial within its chosen rock crevice.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it ideal for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Will also accept high-quality marine pellets or flakes. Feed 1–2 times daily in small portions.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy and well-suited for beginner and experienced aquarists. Benefits from a mature tank with plenty of hiding spots.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock or caves to allow natural hiding and territory establishment. Maintaining stable water parameters and a varied diet helps keep colours vibrant and behaviour active.
