Description

Rosy Tetra (Hyphessobrycon rosaceus) – A Splash of Pink and Graceful Movement for Your Aquarium

The Rosy Tetra (Hyphessobrycon rosaceus) is a delightful and lively freshwater fish that brings a splash of soft pink and vibrant energy to any aquarium. Known for its elegant, slender body and gentle, rosy hue, this tetra is both visually appealing and easy to care for, making it an excellent choice for aquarists of all experience levels. Whether gliding through plants or swimming in schools, the Rosy Tetra adds beauty and activity to your tank with its peaceful demeanor and attractive color.

Native to the clear, slow-moving rivers and streams of South America, the Rosy Tetra thrives in well-maintained aquariums with plenty of plant cover and ample swimming space. Their calm temperament and vibrant coloration make them an ideal addition to community tanks, where they coexist peacefully with other non-aggressive species.

Key Features & Care Guidelines:

  • Soft Rosy Coloration: The Rosy Tetra is named for its subtle pinkish hue, which becomes more vibrant in healthy, well-maintained water conditions. Its soft rosy color contrasts beautifully with its silver body, creating a graceful and calming effect in any aquarium.

  • Behavior: Peaceful and social; best kept in schools of 6 or more to reduce stress and promote natural schooling behavior. These tetras are active swimmers, constantly exploring the tank and interacting with their school.

  • Tank Size: Minimum 20 gallons recommended for a small school, though larger tanks offer more space for swimming and create a more dynamic display. The Rosy Tetra enjoys well-planted aquariums with moderate lighting.

  • Water Parameters: Prefers slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5, and temperatures from 72°F to 80°F (22°C to 27°C). A gentle water flow and good filtration are essential for maintaining their health and vibrant coloration.

  • Diet: Omnivorous; accepts a variety of foods including high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. A varied diet promotes optimal health and enhances their colors.

  • Tank Setup: Ideal for well-planted aquariums with soft, moderate lighting. Dense plant cover offers hiding spots, while open swimming spaces allow these active fish to thrive and show off their graceful movements.

  • Experience Level: Hardy and adaptable, making the Rosy Tetra an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Its peaceful nature makes it a perfect addition to community tanks with other non-aggressive species.

The Rosy Tetra (Hyphessobrycon rosaceus) is an elegant and peaceful fish that will add a touch of color and liveliness to your aquarium. Whether swimming in schools or darting through plants, this gentle tetra will bring both beauty and movement to your tank, creating a relaxing yet vibrant atmosphere.
