Regal Jumping Spider (Phidippus regius)
The Regal Jumping Spider is one of the most popular and charismatic pet spiders in the hobby. Known for its large curious eyes, bold personality, and incredible jumping ability, this species is both fascinating and surprisingly interactive. With their vibrant colours and active daytime behaviour, Regal Jumping Spiders make excellent pets for beginners and experienced keepers alike.
Habitat
Native to the southeastern United States, Phidippus regius thrives in warm, well-ventilated environments with plenty of climbing opportunities.
- Enclosure: Tall, well-ventilated enclosure with vertical climbing space
- Temperature: 24–28°C
- Humidity: Moderate (50–70%) with light misting
- Decor: Twigs, cork bark, foliage, and elevated anchor points for web hammocks
Feeding
Regal Jumping Spiders are active hunters with excellent eyesight, often stalking prey before pouncing.
- Diet: Fruit flies, small crickets, green bottle flies, roaches, and other live insects

- Spiderlings: Every 1–2 days
- Adults: 2–3 times per week
- Fresh water droplets should be provided regularly through misting
General Care
This species is hardy, inquisitive, and often tolerant of gentle interaction, making it ideal for new keepers.

- Handling: Possible with care, though handling should always be gentle and supervised
