Description
Regal Damsel (Plectroglyphidodon dickii / Dick’s Damsel)
A vibrant and active marine species, the Regal Damsel is instantly recognisable by its electric blue body and yellow accents. Known for its bold personality and territorial behaviour, it adds colour and energy to reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with other robust or moderately peaceful species such as gobies, blennies, tangs, and anthias. Avoid very small or timid fish that may be stressed or harassed.
Reef Compatibility:
Generally reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, but may defend a chosen territory aggressively. Ideal for aquariums with ample live rock and hiding spaces.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on a mix of meaty foods (mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood) and marine algae. High-quality flakes or pellets can supplement diet. Feed 1–2 times daily in small portions.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy if introduced to a stable aquarium. Benefits from hiding spaces to reduce stress and encourage natural behaviour.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock or caves to establish territories and reduce aggression. Keep with compatible species and provide a varied diet to maintain vibrant colouration and activity.
