Description
Red Titanic Cactus Pleco (L273) – Fiery Color and Imposing Armor
The Red Titanic Cactus Pleco (L273) is a bold and powerful freshwater species from the Xingu River in Brazil, known for its rugged, armored appearance and intense reddish-orange hues that accent its fins and body. A member of the Pseudacanthicus genus, this pleco boasts dramatic spines, a broad head, and vibrant colors that intensify with maturity—making it a standout in large display aquariums.
This species requires plenty of space, high water quality, and strong flow. While semi-aggressive, it can be kept with robust tank mates that occupy different zones. The Red Titanic Cactus Pleco is carnivorous, preferring a protein-rich diet, and should not be relied on for algae control.
Key Features:
-
Coloration: Dark, armored body with vivid red to orange highlights on the fins and body edges
-
Temperament: Semi-aggressive—territorial with similar bottom-dwellers
-
Size: Can reach 13-15 inches
-
Tank Requirements: Minimum 100 gallons with strong flow, high oxygenation, and rocky caves
-
Diet: Carnivorous—sinking carnivore pellets, shrimp, mussels, and other meaty foods
-
Compatibility: Best with large, non-aggressive tank mates; avoid other plecos or bottom dwellers unless in very spacious tanks
The Red Titanic Cactus Pleco (L273) is a breathtaking and commanding presence in any large aquarium, perfect for experienced aquarists looking for a rare, high-impact species with attitude and color to match its name.
