Description
Red Spotted Hawkfish (Cirrhitichthys falco / Falco Hawkfish)
A striking and charismatic marine species, the Red Spotted Hawkfish is instantly recognisable by its pale body adorned with bold red spots and its distinctive perching behaviour. It’s an active, curious fish that adds personality and colour to reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with peaceful to moderately robust species such as gobies, blennies, clownfish, and small wrasses. Avoid very small or delicate fish that may be harassed. Can be territorial over preferred perch spots in smaller tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Generally reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, though may occasionally prey on very small shrimp or microfauna. Ideal for aquariums with abundant live rock and hiding spots.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Will also accept high-quality marine pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily in small portions.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, benefits from a well-established aquarium with plenty of perching spots and stable water conditions.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock with multiple ledges or small caves for perching. Ensure vertical space to reduce territorial disputes and allow natural perching and observing behaviour.
