Red Speckled Coral Goby (Gobiodon histrio / Broadbarred Coral Goby)
The Red Speckled Coral Goby is a small, colourful reef fish admired for its bright red-orange body covered with fine speckling and its habit of perching amongst branching corals. Peaceful and full of character, it is an excellent choice for nano and larger reef aquariums alike.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Ideal with clownfish, gobies, blennies, cardinalfish, small wrasses, and other non-aggressive reef fish. May become territorial towards other coral gobies unless kept as a compatible pair.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Safe with most corals and ornamental invertebrates. It naturally lives amongst branching SPS corals such as Acropora, where it uses the branches for shelter. Occasionally it may nip coral tissue to create a resting spot, but this rarely causes lasting damage in healthy colonies.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small crustaceans and zooplankton. Offer a varied diet including mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, cyclops, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality nano marine pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily.

- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 60L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy and well suited to established reef aquariums with stable water conditions and plenty of rockwork or branching corals for shelter.
Top Tip:
Provide branching corals or coral-shaped rockwork where the goby can perch and feel secure. Peaceful tankmates and regular small feedings will encourage this colourful little fish to remain visible and display its natural behaviour.
