Description
Red Fairy Dwarf Parrotfish (Cetoscarus bicolor / Dwarf variant)
A small and vibrantly coloured marine species, the Red Fairy Dwarf Parrotfish is admired for its brilliant red-orange body and peaceful temperament. Its charming behaviour and compact size make it an excellent choice for medium to large reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Best kept with other non-aggressive or moderately robust species such as gobies, blennies, clownfish, and tangs. Avoid aggressive tankmates that may outcompete it for food or stress it.
Reef Compatibility:
Mostly reef-safe, but may nibble on some soft corals or algae-covered live rock. Careful observation is recommended in small or delicate reef setups.
Diet:
Omnivore – grazes primarily on algae, but also accepts meaty foods. Offer a varied diet of marine algae, spirulina-based flakes or pellets, and frozen mysis or brine shrimp. Feeding multiple times per day supports health and vibrant colouration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but benefits from a mature aquarium with stable water parameters and sufficient grazing opportunities.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock for natural grazing and hiding spots to reduce stress. Regularly rotate food types to maintain colour and encourage natural behaviour.
