Red Devil Vinegaroon Whip Scorpion (Thelyphonus sp. "Red")
The Red Devil Vinegaroon Whip Scorpion is a striking and unusual arachnid, prized for its rich reddish-brown colouration and prehistoric appearance. Despite its intimidating pincers and long whip-like tail, this species is completely harmless to humans, possessing neither venom nor a sting. Nocturnal and fascinating to observe, it is an excellent display animal for both beginner and experienced invertebrate keepers.
Habitat
Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, Thelyphonus sp. "Red" thrives in warm, humid conditions with plenty of places to burrow and hide.

- Humidity: High (70–80%)
- Decor: Cork bark, moss, leaf litter, rocks, and hides to encourage natural burrowing behaviour
Feeding
An active nocturnal predator, the Red Devil Vinegaroon hunts a variety of live invertebrates.
- Diet: Crickets, roaches, locusts, mealworms, and other appropriately sized live insects

- Juveniles: 2–3 times per week
- Adults: 1–2 times per week
- Remove any uneaten prey after feeding
General Care
This hardy species is easy to maintain and rewards keepers with fascinating natural behaviours.
- Temperament: Calm, shy, and generally non-aggressive
- Handling: Minimal handling recommended to reduce stress
- Defence: Can spray a harmless acetic acid-based liquid with a strong vinegar smell when threatened
- Lifespan: Around 7–10 years with proper care
