Description
Red Cardinalfish (Apogon pseudomaculatus)
A stunning and peaceful marine species, the Red Cardinalfish is prized for its deep crimson body, translucent fins, and subtle dark markings. Its calm temperament and schooling nature make it an ideal addition to community marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful and best kept in small schools (3–6). Mixes well with other non-aggressive species such as gobies, blennies, clownfish, and small tangs. Avoid aggressive tankmates that may stress them or compete for food.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Does not harm corals or invertebrates, making it suitable for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods. Offer frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Multiple small feedings per day are recommended for optimal health and colour.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy in established tanks but may be shy initially. Providing plenty of hiding spots helps them settle quickly.
Top Tip:
Keep in small schools to encourage natural schooling behaviour and reduce stress. They show their best colours in well-lit, mature aquariums with open swimming space.
