Description
Red Banded Goby (Amblyeleotris randalli / Randall’s Shrimp Goby)
A peaceful and fascinating sand-dwelling marine fish, the Red Banded Goby is recognised by its pale body with bold red striping and its symbiotic relationship with pistol shrimp. It spends most of its time perched at the entrance of a shared burrow, making it a highly engaging addition to reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other calm species such as clownfish, blennies, wrasses, and small tangs. Ideal for community reef setups with minimal aggression.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely harmless to corals and invertebrates, and well suited to reef environments.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood. Will also take high-quality sinking pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 80L
Care Level:
Easy to Moderate – hardy once settled but requires a fine sandy substrate and stable conditions for burrowing and shrimp pairing behaviour.
Top Tip:
Provide a deep sand bed and fine substrate to allow natural burrow formation. Pairing with a compatible pistol shrimp enhances natural behaviour and makes the setup far more engaging.
