Description
Pyjama Wrasse – West Indian Ocean (Halichoeres poeyi / Pyjama Wrasse)
A colourful and peaceful marine fish, the Pyjama Wrasse is instantly recognisable by its vibrant stripes along the body, making it a lively and attractive addition to reef and community aquariums. Its active and curious behaviour adds constant movement to your tank.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Mixes well with other small to medium community fish such as clownfish, gobies, tangs, and dwarf angelfish. Avoid aggressive or overly large tankmates.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates. May occasionally burrow lightly in sand, which can aid substrate aeration.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, and finely chopped seafood. Will accept high-quality marine pellets or flakes. Feed 2–3 times daily for best colouration and activity.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but thrives in a mature aquarium with stable water parameters and sufficient hiding places among live rock.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of rockwork and crevices for security. Regular feeding of small meaty foods enhances vibrant colours and encourages natural, active behaviour.
