Description
Pinktail Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysotaenia)
A vibrant and peaceful marine species, the Pinktail Wrasse is instantly recognisable by its slender, elongated body, shimmering greenish-blue coloration, and bright pink tail. Its active swimming and playful behaviour make it a lively addition to reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other non-aggressive species such as clownfish, gobies, blennies, and tangs. Avoid overly aggressive tankmates that may stress or bully it. Can be territorial with conspecifics in small tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Generally reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it suitable for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily for optimal health.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 200L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but benefits from a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and plenty of hiding spots.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock and sand substrate to encourage natural foraging and hiding behaviour. Introduce into a well-established aquarium to reduce stress and allow the fish to display its full, vibrant colours.
