Description
Percula Clownfish – Coral Sea (Amphiprion percula / True Percula Clownfish)
A classic and highly sought-after marine species, the Percula Clownfish is admired for its bright orange body, crisp white bands, and elegant black edging around the markings. Native to the Coral Sea region, this peaceful and hardy clownfish is a favourite for reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Best kept with other peaceful species such as gobies, blennies, wrasses, and small tangs. Can become territorial when paired or hosting an anemone. Avoid mixing with more aggressive clownfish species in smaller tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and most invertebrates. May form a symbiotic relationship with host anemones, although this is not essential for captive care.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, flakes, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feed 1–2 times daily for optimal health and colouration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 80L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, adaptable, and ideal for beginner to advanced marine aquarists. Tank-bred specimens are especially robust and easy to maintain.
Top Tip:
Introduce into a peaceful tank with plenty of hiding spaces among live rock. If keeping a pair, allow them to establish naturally rather than forcing two dominant individuals together.
