Description
Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni / Peppermint Cleaner Shrimp)
A popular and functional marine invertebrate, the Peppermint Shrimp is known for its red-and-white striped body and its natural ability to help control pest aiptasia anemones in aquariums. Its peaceful nature and cleaning behaviour make it an excellent addition to reef and community tanks.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Can be kept with most fish species and other invertebrates. Avoid large predatory fish that may eat the shrimp.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and most invertebrates. Particularly useful in controlling pest aiptasia populations.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on leftover meaty foods, detritus, and biofilm. Can also accept finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, and commercial shrimp pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily if natural food is insufficient.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 60L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy and adaptable. Requires stable water conditions and some hiding spots among live rock.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of crevices or coral branches for shelter. Their pest-control abilities and active cleaning behaviour make them a highly useful addition to reef tanks.
