Description

Orange Xingu Pike Cichlid – Vibrant Predator with Fiery Elegance
(Crenicichla sp. 'Xingu I')

The Orange Xingu Pike Cichlid (Crenicichla sp. 'Xingu I') is a stunning and rare predator native to Brazil’s Rio Xingu. Known for its intense orange hues and sleek, torpedo-shaped body, this species combines beauty with boldness. It's a favorite among cichlid enthusiasts for its vibrant coloration, alert behavior, and commanding presence.

Key Features:

  • Brilliant Orange Accents: Radiant orange coloration along the belly and fins, with a silvery-bronze body and dark lateral stripe.

  • Predatory Elegance: A streamlined body built for speed and precision—this fish is as graceful as it is powerful.

  • Rare & Sought-After: A prized species among advanced hobbyists and cichlid collectors.

  • Moderate to Large Size: Typically reaches 20–25 cm (8–10 inches) in captivity.

Tank Requirements:

  • Minimum tank size: 200–300 liters (55–75+ gallons)

  • Temperature: 26°C–30°C (79°F–86°F)

  • pH: 6.0–7.2

  • Prefers soft, well-oxygenated water with strong flow—ideal setup includes sand substrate, driftwood, and rock structures for ambush points

Compatibility:

  • Semi-aggressive to aggressive—best housed with other robust South American cichlids or large catfish

  • Not suitable for tanks with small, slow, or peaceful fish (may be seen as prey)

  • Can be kept singly, in pairs, or in large tanks with enough space and cover

Feeding Tips:

  • Carnivorous—enjoys a varied diet of frozen foods like shrimp, fish fillets, earthworms, and the occasional live prey

  • Will also accept high-quality carnivore pellets with training

  • Avoid overfeeding and provide a diverse diet to maintain health and color
