Description

Orange Lipped Conch (Strombus / Lobatus spp.)

A hardy and beneficial marine invertebrate, the Orange Lipped Conch is well known for its algae-grazing and sand-cleaning abilities. Recognised by its sturdy shell and distinctive orange-coloured lip, this conch is both functional and visually interesting, making it a great addition to reef and marine aquariums.

Compatibility:
Peaceful. Safe to keep with most community fish including clownfish, gobies, and blennies. Avoid aggressive or predatory species such as large wrasses, triggers, and puffers that may attack it.

Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Does not harm corals or invertebrates, making it ideal for reef aquariums.

Diet:
Herbivore/Detritivore – feeds on algae, film algae, and detritus within the sand bed. May require supplemental feeding (algae wafers or marine algae sheets) in very clean systems.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 24–27°C
  • Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Minimum Tank Size: 120L

Care Level:
Easy to moderate – hardy once acclimated, but requires a well-established tank with a mature sand bed to provide natural food sources.

Top Tip:
Provide a soft sand substrate for natural movement and feeding. Ensure the conch can easily right itself if flipped, and maintain a steady algae supply to support long-term health.
