Nerite Snail (Nerita sp. / Nerite Snail)
The Nerite Snail is a hardy and highly efficient algae grazer, making it an excellent addition to any marine clean-up crew. Recognised by its small, rounded shell with attractive patterns and markings, it spends its time grazing on glass, rocks, and décor, helping to control nuisance algae naturally.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Compatible with reef fish, corals, and other invertebrates. Suitable for both reef and fish-only marine aquariums.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and ornamental invertebrates while providing excellent algae control.
Diet:
Herbivore – feeds primarily on film algae, diatoms, cyanobacteria, and other naturally occurring algae. Supplement with algae wafers or dried seaweed if natural food becomes limited.

- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 30L
Care Level:
Easy – extremely hardy and well suited to both beginner and experienced marine aquarists.
Top Tip:
Nerite Snails are excellent glass cleaners and are particularly effective at removing film algae. Ensure the aquarium has a secure lid, as they are known to climb above the waterline and may escape from uncovered tanks.
