Description
Nicaraguan Cichlid – A Stunning and Surprisingly Peaceful Central American Beauty
(Hypsophrys nicaraguensis)
The Nicaraguan Cichlid, sometimes called the Macaw Cichlid, is a brilliantly coloured and intelligent species native to the lakes and rivers of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Its radiant mix of golden yellows, turquoise blues, and deep reds makes it one of the most striking cichlids available, especially as it matures and its colours intensify.
Despite its impressive appearance, the Nicaraguan Cichlid is known for being one of the more peaceful members of the Central American cichlid family. With the right setup, it can coexist with other medium to large non-aggressive fish, making it ideal for a semi-aggressive community aquarium.
