Description
Nassarius Snails (Nassarius spp.)
A highly useful and active clean-up crew member, Nassarius Snails are small marine scavengers known for their excellent sand-stirring behaviour. Often seen buried beneath the substrate with only their siphon visible, they quickly emerge when food is detected, helping keep the tank clean and well-oxygenated.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Safe with all community fish including clownfish, gobies, blennies, and tangs. Ideal for reef and invertebrate systems.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and other invertebrates, making them perfect for reef aquariums.
Diet:
Carnivore/Scavenger – feeds on leftover food, detritus, and decaying organic matter. Does not eat algae. May require supplemental feeding (small meaty foods) in very clean tanks.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 40L
Care Level:
Easy – very hardy and ideal for beginner to advanced aquarists. Thrive in established aquariums with a sand substrate.
Top Tip:
Provide a soft sand bed for burrowing and natural scavenging behaviour. Add in groups for best results, as they work collectively to keep the substrate clean and aerated.
