Description
Multicolour Wrasse (Halichoeres iridis / Radiant Wrasse)
A stunning and highly sought-after marine wrasse, the Multicolour Wrasse is prized for its vivid blend of orange, red, yellow, green, and blue coloration. Also known as the Radiant Wrasse, this active and peaceful species is an excellent choice for reef aquariums, adding constant movement and brilliant colour.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Mixes well with clownfish, gobies, tangs, angelfish, and other non-aggressive wrasses. May become territorial toward similar species in smaller aquariums but is generally well-mannered.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Safe with corals but may consume small ornamental shrimp, flatworms, bristleworms, and other tiny invertebrates. Often appreciated for helping control nuisance pests in reef systems.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small crustaceans, worms, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and quality marine pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 200L
Care Level:
Moderate – requires a mature aquarium with stable water conditions, a healthy microfauna population, and a sandy substrate for natural behaviour.
Top Tip:
Provide a fine sand bed, as Radiant Wrasses bury themselves when sleeping or startled. A secure lid is essential, as this species is an excellent jumper. Regular feeding helps maintain its vibrant colours and active nature.
