Description
Multicolour Dwarf Parrot (Trade Name / Hybrid Parrotfish)
A colourful and eye-catching marine species often sold under the trade name Multicolour Dwarf Parrot, this fish is typically a smaller parrotfish-type variant selected for its bright mixed colouration and active grazing behaviour. It is a strong swimmer and a constant grazer, making it both visually impressive and functionally useful in larger marine systems.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with robust tankmates such as tangs, wrasses, angelfish, and larger clownfish. Can be territorial, especially as it matures. Avoid small, slow, or delicate species.
Reef Compatibility:
Not reef-safe. Will graze on algae but may also damage live rock, corals, and sessile invertebrates due to natural feeding behaviour. Best suited for fish-only marine systems.
Diet:
Herbivore/Omnivore – primarily feeds on algae but will also accept a varied diet including algae sheets, spirulina-based foods, and marine pellets. Occasional frozen meaty foods can be offered for balance. Feed 2–3 times daily.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 400L
Care Level:
Moderate to Advanced – requires a mature aquarium with stable water conditions, strong filtration, and plenty of swimming and grazing space.
Top Tip:
Provide ample live rock and open areas for grazing activity. Avoid reef setups, as natural feeding behaviour can lead to unwanted damage to corals and rockwork over time.
