Description
Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas)
A vibrant and charismatic marine species, the Midas Blenny is instantly recognisable by its bright golden-orange body and playful, active behaviour. Its hardy nature and peaceful temperament make it an excellent addition to reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Best kept with other non-aggressive or moderately robust species such as clownfish, gobies, and tangs. Can become territorial with other blennies or similar-shaped fish in small tanks.
Reef Compatibility:
Generally reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it suitable for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Omnivore – feeds on algae and small meaty foods. Offer a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina-based flakes or pellets, and frozen mysis or brine shrimp. Feed multiple times daily to maintain vibrant coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but benefits from a well-established aquarium with hiding spots and stable water parameters.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and small crevices for hiding. Regularly rotating food types helps maintain colour vibrancy and encourages natural behaviour.
