Description
Lyretail Wrasse (Thalassoma lunare / Moon Wrasse)
A vibrant and energetic marine fish, the Lyretail Wrasse is renowned for its brilliant green, blue, and yellow coloration, along with its distinctive lyre-shaped tail. Constantly active and full of personality, it makes a spectacular addition to large marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with other robust species such as tangs, angelfish, triggerfish, butterflyfish, and larger wrasses. May harass smaller, timid fish and can become increasingly territorial as it matures.
Reef Compatibility:
Not reef-safe. While generally harmless to corals, it will readily prey on ornamental shrimp, crabs, snails, worms, and other small invertebrates. Best suited to fish-only marine systems.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on crustaceans, worms, mysis shrimp, krill, chopped seafood, and quality marine pellets. Feed 2–3 times daily to support its active lifestyle and maintain vibrant coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 400L
Care Level:
Easy to Moderate – hardy and adaptable once established but requires ample swimming space, strong filtration, and carefully selected tankmates.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of open swimming space alongside secure rockwork. A tightly fitting lid is essential, as Lyretail Wrasses are powerful jumpers and can leap from uncovered aquariums.
