Lamarck's Angelfish (Genicanthus lamarck / Lamarck's Angel)
A graceful and reef-friendly marine angelfish, Lamarck's Angelfish is admired for its elegant silver-grey body marked with bold black stripes and flowing fins. Unlike many angelfish species, it is considered one of the safest choices for reef aquariums, making it a popular addition to larger marine systems.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Mixes well with tangs, wrasses, clownfish, gobies, and other community marine fish. Can be kept singly, as a pair, or in a harem group in sufficiently large aquariums.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Generally does not nip at corals, making it one of the best angelfish choices for reef aquariums.
Diet:
Omnivore/Planktivore – feeds on zooplankton in the wild. Offer a varied diet including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, marine pellets, flakes, and frozen plankton-based foods. Feed 2–3 times daily.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 300L
Care Level:
Moderate – requires a mature aquarium with stable water conditions, good water movement, and plenty of open swimming space.
Top Tip:
Provide a varied, plankton-rich diet and plenty of swimming room. Lamarck's Angels thrive in larger aquariums where they can display their natural active swimming behaviour and elegant finnage.
