Description
Jade Wrasse (Halichoeres chloropterus / Jade Wrasse)
A beautifully coloured and active marine wrasse, the Jade Wrasse is known for its vibrant green and turquoise hues, accented by subtle yellow and blue markings. Constantly searching through rockwork and substrate for food, it is an energetic and useful addition to larger marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Generally compatible with tangs, clownfish, gobies, angelfish, and other non-aggressive wrasse species. May become territorial toward similar wrasses, particularly in smaller aquariums.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. Safe with corals but may consume small ornamental shrimp, worms, feather dusters, and other tiny invertebrates. Can be beneficial for controlling certain aquarium pests.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small crustaceans, worms, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and quality marine pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily to maintain health and vibrant coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 300L
Care Level:
Easy to Moderate – hardy once acclimated but requires stable water conditions, ample swimming space, and a sandy substrate for natural behaviour.
Top Tip:
Provide a fine sand bed for sleeping and refuge, as this species will bury itself when resting or startled. A tightly fitting lid is recommended, as wrasses are known jumpers.
