Description
Green Chromis (Chromis viridis)
A classic and highly popular marine species, the Green Chromis is known for its shimmering green-blue coloration and peaceful, active schooling behaviour. Ideal for both beginner and advanced reef aquariums, this hardy fish brings life and movement to the middle and upper water column.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept in schools of 5–10 or more to encourage natural schooling behaviour. Mixes well with clownfish, gobies, blennies, anthias, and other non-aggressive species. Avoid housing with large, aggressive fish that may stress or prey on them.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it ideal for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Omnivore – thrives on high-quality marine flakes, pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Multiple small feedings per day support vibrant coloration and healthy growth.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 150L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, adaptable, and suitable for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists.
Top Tip:
Keep in schools to reduce stress and highlight natural schooling behaviour. Providing open swimming space and good water flow enhances colour and activity.
