Goldtip Starfish (Fromia monilis / Goldtip Fromia Starfish)
The Goldtip Starfish is a stunning reef-safe sea star, admired for its deep red to burgundy body accented with distinctive golden-yellow tips along each arm. Elegant and slow-moving, it makes a beautiful addition to mature reef aquariums where it spends its time grazing across live rock and aquarium surfaces.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Compatible with reef fish, corals, shrimp, snails, and other ornamental invertebrates. Best kept with peaceful tankmates that will not nip at its tube feet or arms.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Safe with corals and ornamental invertebrates. It naturally grazes on biofilm, bacterial films, and microscopic organisms growing on live rock without damaging corals.
Diet:
Omnivore/Grazer – primarily feeds on biofilm, bacterial films, sponges, and microorganisms found on mature live rock. Supplemental feeding is rarely accepted, making a well-established aquarium essential.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L
Care Level:
Moderate to Advanced – requires a mature reef aquarium with abundant live rock, stable water chemistry, and pristine water quality. Sensitive to rapid changes in salinity, pH, and temperature.
Top Tip:
Only introduce Goldtip Starfish into well-established aquariums that are at least 6–12 months old. Always use slow drip acclimation, as Fromia starfish are highly sensitive to sudden changes in water parameters and rely on mature live rock for long-term nutrition.
