Description
Goldrim Powder Brown Tang (Acanthurus japonicus / Whitecheek Surgeonfish)
A beautifully refined and highly popular marine species, the Goldrim Powder Brown Tang is known for its soft brown body, bright white face marking, and striking yellow fin edging. Its elegant appearance and active grazing behaviour make it a standout addition to larger marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with other robust species such as wrasses, angelfish, and clownfish. Can be territorial with other tangs, especially in smaller systems or similar-shaped species.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it ideal for reef aquariums.
Diet:
Herbivore – primarily feeds on marine algae. Provide a varied diet including algae sheets, spirulina flakes or pellets, and vegetable-based frozen foods. Multiple feedings per day are recommended for optimal health.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 400L
Care Level:
Moderate to Advanced – requires a mature aquarium with stable water conditions, high oxygenation, and plenty of swimming space. Can be sensitive during acclimation.
Top Tip:
Introduce into an established tank with strong filtration and ample live rock for grazing. Avoid mixing with other aggressive tangs unless the aquarium is large enough to reduce territorial disputes.
