Description
Glorious Wrasse (Thalassoma quinquevittatum)
The Glorious Wrasse is a bold, colourful and highly active marine wrasse, displaying a spectacular combination of green, blue, pink and reddish colouration. Its markings become increasingly impressive as it matures, making it an eye-catching centrepiece for larger fish-only and robust marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with confident, similarly sized tankmates such as tangs, larger angelfish, triggerfish and other robust wrasses. It may harass smaller, timid or newly introduced fish, particularly as it matures.
Reef Compatibility:
Not considered fully reef-safe. Although it generally leaves corals themselves alone, it will actively hunt shrimp, crabs, snails, worms and other mobile invertebrates.
Diet:
Carnivore – offer a varied diet including mysis shrimp, krill, chopped prawn, mussel, clam, squid and quality marine pellets. Naturally spends much of the day searching rockwork for crustaceans and other small prey.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 400L
Care Level:
Easy to Moderate – generally hardy and an enthusiastic feeder once established, but requires excellent filtration and plenty of open swimming space due to its active nature.
Top Tip:
A secure, tightly fitting lid is essential, as Glorious Wrasses are powerful jumpers. Provide plenty of open swimming space alongside substantial rockwork where the fish can explore and forage naturally.
