Description

Flower Mantis (Creobroter sp.)

The Flower Mantis is a beautifully patterned praying mantis, renowned for its vibrant colours and incredible flower-like camouflage. Native to Asia, this small but striking species uses its ornate wings and bold markings to blend seamlessly into blossoms while waiting to ambush unsuspecting prey. Its fascinating behaviour and relatively straightforward care make it a popular choice for both beginner and experienced mantis keepers.

Habitat

Flower Mantises thrive in warm, humid environments with plenty of climbing space for moulting.

  • Enclosure: Tall, well-ventilated enclosure with ample vertical space
  • Temperature: 24–28°C
  • Humidity: Moderate to high (60–80%)
  • Decor: Twigs, branches, artificial or live plants, and flowers for climbing and camouflage

Feeding

An active ambush predator, the Flower Mantis readily feeds on a variety of live insects.

  • Diet: Fruit flies (for young nymphs), green bottle flies, small crickets, and other appropriately sized insects
  • Feeding frequency:
    • Nymphs: Every 1–2 days
    • Adults: 2–3 times per week
  • Remove uneaten prey, especially during moulting periods

General Care

Flower Mantises are hardy and rewarding to keep, provided they have adequate ventilation and suitable humidity.

  • Temperament: Alert, active, and inquisitive
  • Handling: Can be handled gently but are best enjoyed as display animals
  • Lifespan: Around 8–12 months depending on species and sex
  • Maintenance: Regular light misting, good airflow, and sufficient height for successful moulting are essential

Order anything from our in-store range and have it delivered right to you.

Distances are measured “as the crow flies”, not by road.

Once your order is placed, we’ll be in touch to arrange a suitable delivery date and time.
Please note, delivery may take a little longer as we often group orders together to build an efficient delivery run.

Important: If you’re ordering a large aquarium, please ensure someone is available to help unload the van on arrival.

  • Express Pallet: 1–3 working days 75-500kg
