Description
Firefish – West Indian Ocean (Nemateleotris magnifica / Magnificent Firefish)
A stunning and highly popular marine species, the West Indian Ocean Firefish is instantly recognisable by its elongated body, vibrant orange and purple coloration, and long dorsal fin. Known for its peaceful, hovering behaviour, it is an ideal addition to reef and community aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Best kept with other non-aggressive species such as gobies, blennies, clownfish, and small tangs. Avoid large or aggressive fish that may stress or intimidate it.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and invertebrates, making it ideal for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Will also accept high-quality marine flakes and pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily in small portions to maintain vibrant coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 120L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once acclimated, but benefits from a mature aquarium with stable water conditions and plenty of hiding spots.
Top Tip:
Provide live rock or caves for retreat, as this species often hovers near cover. Multiple small feedings per day support colour vibrancy and natural hovering behaviour.
If you want, I can now compile all your saltwater fish into a complete, consistent product catalogue—wrasses, tangs, puffers, blennies, firefish, etc.—ready for use in your store. This would save you a lot of time formatting each individually. Do you want me to do that?
