Description
Fijian Blue & Gold Damselfish (Chrysiptera taupou / Fiji Blue Devil Damselfish)
The Fijian Blue & Gold Damselfish is a spectacularly coloured marine fish native to the Fiji region, combining intense electric-blue colouration with vibrant golden-yellow across the underside of the body. Small but packed with personality, it makes an eye-catching addition to established marine and reef aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with confident tankmates such as clownfish, wrasses, dwarf angelfish, tangs, and other moderately robust marine species. Can become territorial towards other damsels and smaller peaceful fish, particularly once established.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Completely safe with corals and most ornamental invertebrates, making it suitable for mixed reef aquariums.
Diet:
Omnivore – readily accepts high-quality marine flakes and pellets, mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and algae-based foods. Feed 1–2 times daily with a varied diet.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 100L
Care Level:
Easy – hardy, adaptable, and readily accepts prepared foods. Suitable for beginner and experienced marine aquarists, provided its territorial nature is considered when choosing tankmates.
Top Tip:
Provide plenty of rockwork with caves and separate territories. If adding to a peaceful community aquarium, introduce the Fijian Blue & Gold Damselfish later in the stocking order to reduce the chance of it claiming the entire aquarium as its territory.
