Feather Duster Worm – Brown & White (Sabellastarte spp.)
A beautiful and unique marine invertebrate, the Brown & White Feather Duster Worm is admired for its elegant, fan-like crown that extends from a protective tube. Its delicate, radiating “feathers” create gentle movement in the aquarium, adding both visual interest and natural filtration benefits.
Compatibility:
Peaceful. Safe to keep with most non-aggressive fish such as clownfish, gobies, and blennies. Avoid housing with predatory species like wrasses, triggers, or puffers that may nip or consume it.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Harmless to corals and other invertebrates, making it an excellent addition to reef aquariums.
Diet:
Filter feeder – feeds on microscopic plankton and suspended particles in the water. Supplement with phytoplankton or specialised filter-feeder foods 2–3 times per week, especially in low-nutrient systems.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 60L
Care Level:
Moderate – requires stable water conditions and a consistent food source. Sensitive to sudden changes in water parameters.
Top Tip:
Place in an area with moderate flow to allow it to effectively filter feed without being blasted by strong currents. Avoid handling or exposing it to air, as this can cause stress or crown loss.
