Description
Emperor Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni)
A rare and highly sought-after marine species, the Emperor Banggai Cardinalfish is a larger, more striking variant of the classic Banggai Cardinal. It features bold black stripes, silver body, and long flowing fins, making it a true centerpiece for peaceful marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Peaceful but best kept in small groups. Ideal for community tanks with other peaceful fish like gobies, blennies, clownfish, and tangs. Avoid aggressive species that may stress or outcompete them for food.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe. Does not harm corals or invertebrates, making it suitable for live rock and reef setups.
Diet:
Carnivore – thrives on a diet of frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Feed small amounts multiple times per day to encourage natural hunting behaviour and maintain vibrant coloration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 25–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 150L
Care Level:
Moderate – hardy once established, but benefits from a mature, stable aquarium with hiding spots to reduce stress.
Top Tip:
Keep in small schools to showcase natural social and schooling behaviour. Providing plenty of live rock and crevices encourages confidence and reduces territorial stress.
