Dot Dash Butterflyfish – Fiji (Chaetodon pelewensis)
A beautifully patterned and eye-catching species, the Dot Dash Butterflyfish features a soft silver body accented with delicate dashed lines and a bold dark eye band. Sourced from the pristine waters of Fiji, this species is a fantastic addition to larger marine aquariums looking for elegance and movement.
Compatibility:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Best kept with other non-aggressive to moderately robust species such as tangs, wrasse, angelfish, and larger clownfish. Avoid very small or timid tank mates. Can be kept singly or as a bonded pair in larger systems.
Reef Compatibility:
Not reef-safe. Known to nip at soft corals, LPS, zoanthids, and anemones.
Diet:
Omnivore (leans carnivorous) – can be a fussy feeder initially. Offer a varied diet including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine preparations. May also graze on natural foods within live rock.

- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 250L
Care Level:
Moderate to Advanced – requires a well-established aquarium and patience during acclimation, as some individuals can be slow to accept prepared foods.
Top Tip:
Introduce into a mature tank with plenty of live rock to encourage natural feeding behaviour, and offer frequent small feedings to help settle new arrivals.
