Description
Cream Angelfish (Apolemichthys xanthurus / Cream Angelfish)
A beautiful and elegant marine angelfish, the Cream Angelfish is admired for its soft cream-coloured body, vibrant yellow tail, and distinctive dark blotch behind the gill cover. Its graceful swimming behaviour and understated beauty make it a superb centrepiece for larger marine aquariums.
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive. Best kept with other moderately robust species such as tangs, wrasses, butterflyfish, and larger clownfish. Can become territorial towards other angelfish, particularly in smaller aquariums.
Reef Compatibility:
Reef-safe with caution. May occasionally nip at soft corals, LPS corals, zoanthids, and clam mantles. Best suited to fish-only systems or carefully monitored mixed reef aquariums.
Diet:
Omnivore – requires a varied diet including sponge-based angelfish foods, marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feed 2–3 times daily to maintain excellent health and vibrant colouration.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24–27°C
- Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Minimum Tank Size: 350L
Care Level:
Moderate – requires a mature aquarium with stable water conditions, excellent filtration, and plenty of live rock for grazing, shelter, and exploration.
Top Tip:
Provide a varied diet rich in sponge material and marine algae, along with plenty of caves and overhangs. Introducing the Cream Angelfish after more peaceful species have settled will help reduce territorial behaviour and improve long-term success.
