Coral Blaze Pac-Man Frog (Ceratophrys cranwelli)
The Coral Blaze Pac-Man Frog is a spectacular colour morph of the popular Cranwell's Horned Frog, displaying vibrant coral, orange, red and yellow tones. Famous for their enormous mouths, rounded bodies and enthusiastic feeding response, Pac-Man Frogs are fascinating terrestrial amphibians that make excellent display pets. The Coral Blaze morph offers all the character of a traditional Pac-Man Frog with particularly eye-catching colouration.
Habitat
Pac-Man Frogs are terrestrial ambush predators that spend much of their time partially concealed while waiting for prey.
- Enclosure: Secure terrestrial terrarium with adequate floor space
- Temperature: Around 24–28°C during the day, with a slight drop at night
- Humidity: Approximately 60–80%
- Lighting: A suitable day/night cycle should be provided, with appropriate low-level UVB beneficial
- Decor: Cork bark, moss, leaf litter and suitable hiding areas
- A shallow dish of clean, dechlorinated water should always be available
- Regular misting can be used to maintain appropriate humidity without leaving the enclosure permanently saturated
Feeding
Coral Blaze Pac-Man Frogs are enthusiastic carnivores with a famously impressive feeding response.
- Diet: Crickets, locusts, roaches, earthworms and other appropriately sized live foods
- Juveniles: Feed smaller meals every 1–2 days depending on size and body condition
- Adults: Generally feed 2–3 times per week
- Appropriately sized whole prey can occasionally be offered to larger individuals
- Live foods should be gut-loaded and appropriately supplemented with calcium and vitamins
- Avoid excessive use of fatty foods to maintain a healthy body condition
General Care
Pac-Man Frogs are relatively straightforward to maintain when their temperature, humidity, diet and water quality are kept consistent.
- Temperament: Generally sedentary but highly food-responsive
- Handling: Minimal handling is recommended due to their sensitive skin
- Adult Size: Females can reach approximately 10–15cm, with males generally remaining smaller
- Lifespan: Commonly around 6–10+ years with excellent care
- Activity: Primarily an ambush predator and may remain in the same position for extended periods
- Maintenance: Clean water, stable humidity and good enclosure hygiene are particularly important for amphibians
