Description
Centurion Cockroach
The Centurion Cockroach is a beautiful and active tropical cockroach, admired for its striking cream and brown markings and fascinating behaviour. Unlike many cockroach species, the Centurion Cockroach is an excellent climber and spends much of its time exploring branches and bark. Its attractive appearance, ease of care, and active nature make it a fantastic choice for both beginner and experienced invertebrate keepers.
Habitat
Native to tropical regions of Africa, the Centurion Cockroach thrives in warm, humid environments with plenty of climbing opportunities.
- Enclosure: Well-ventilated terrestrial enclosure with vertical climbing surfaces
- Temperature: 24–28°C
- Humidity: Moderate to high (60–80%)
- Decor: Cork bark, branches, leaf litter, egg crates, and pieces of decaying wood for shelter and climbing
Feeding
The Centurion Cockroach is an omnivorous scavenger that benefits from a varied diet.
- Diet: Fresh fruit, vegetables, leaf litter, fish flakes, dried insects, and specialised invertebrate foods
- Feeding frequency: Fresh food should be offered several times a week, removing uneaten food before it spoils
- A constant supply of leaf litter and decaying wood helps encourage natural feeding behaviour
General Care
This hardy species is easy to maintain and breeds readily under the correct conditions.
- Temperament: Active, peaceful, and fast-moving
- Handling: Minimal handling recommended due to their speed and delicate nature
- Lifespan: Around 12–18 months, with females typically living longer than males
